I'm not sure how many people read this forum these days, so it maybe that I'm talking to myself. If this is the case, then it will accurately reflect my efforts this season!
I think that most of you will have realised by now that I've basically had enough, but in case there are any doubters out there, I would like everyone to know that this will be my final season of involvement with HWCC - as far as picking the teams is concerned at least.
IF the Club is to continue next season, I would be prepared to carry on arranging the fixtures but the time has come for someone else to take on the balls-acheing, thankless task of trying to get 11 players together every week during the season. Perhaps then, after the new incumbent has experienced how it feels to have phone calls ignored, texts and e-mails unanswered and just about every reason under the sun for non-playing thrown at them, they might just begin to realise why it is that I have such a jaundiced view of the whole exercise.
I know we've been unlucky with injuries, I know that we've had some exceptional circumstances such as people getting married, going to work overseas etc., but for this all to happen pretty much at once is more than I can take. I've run out of ideas for new players and run out of enthusiasm, so it's time for someone else to have a go.
Richard and I have got some ideas for next season and how we might operate which we will run past you all before the end of this season, but in the meantime, you - the playing membership - must now take a long hard look at yourselves and decide whether you want a cricket club next season and if so, then you must decide what you are going to do about keeping it going. You cannot rely on others doing it all for you any longer, because it's not going to happen that way in future.
Think about it.
